I thought that this book would be a gothic version of Twlight, but was sadly mistaken. This book pales in comparisson to the work Stephenie Meyer has done. In fact, I found this book this book very unlikable. I didn't not like this book because of its lack of similarities to Twlight, but the way this book and the characters were written. To Twlight fans, there is a slight similarity to Twlight because Edgar is young looking but actually really old, like Edward, but in no way does this hold a candle to Twlight and should not even be compared to Twlight. I for one was very disappointed in this book. I found the beginning to be okay and then towards the end of the book it headed even more down hill. I found the beginning to be quite uninteresting and the character Estella to be lacking and very unlikable. Estella is very obnoxious, self-centered, bratty, and annoying. This kind of character makes me question what Edgar even saw in her. She has a huge temper, she throws temper tantrums when she doesn't get her way, and she makes a lot of situations about her (like when she was contemplating about killing herself). Another aspect I disliked about Estella is if she is supposed to be so smart, then why did she not learn from previous mistakes. She went off by herself outside, against Edgar's wishes once. Later on in the book, she does this again and this gets her captured by the enemy. I really didn't think the author thought this character through becuase the character suddenly decides that she is the one that is going to stop the bad guy. If Estella does not have all her powers and her strength pales in comparisson to the bad guy, then how is she supposed to stop the bad guy. I didn't even see really any charcter development in this book. There were like eight people in total in the whole book and the auhtor barely even talked about the history for Edgar or Estella. I guess the author wanted Edgar to mysterious, but shouldn't Estella at least get more back ground because all the background I got was of the person she was staying with before she went to college. Another problem I have with this book is that the plot is under developed. There is no major events that really happen in this book, which gives good reason for my lack of interest for this book. I was shocked that I read to the end of this book because of the lack of any interesting event.Tags : Feather (Unedited Signed First Edition: Book One of Feather Book Series) [Abra Ebner] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. *This is the limited release UNEDITED author's copy of Feather. Feather Unedited Signed First Edition Book One of Feather Book Series Abra Ebner 9780982272503 Books Reviews
I liked the storyline and how it is developed but there were several phrases in there that DROVE me crazy. One was "furling of the brow" and the other was "blood like lava". I cannot say that they were cliched because I hadn't heard them until this book but, Good God, it's like every other page Estelle was "furling her brow" maybe if she furled it enough she could set sail on a sea of lava hot blood!!! Despite my frustration with incorrect word usage (to the author you really do need to pay a human being to read your work before you release it because spell check just isn't cutting it!) and terrible spelling mistakes; I enjoyed the story. I do hope that she comes out with a third one that hopefully an editor has corrected for her. I also don't like that you can't really see a synopsis of what a book is about on the section. Elsewhere in they let you cruise the book before deciding to buy it. So here's my synopsis Estelle is from a race of immortals that threatened to become more powerful than the Gods. This made the Gods unhappy and insecure so they moved to complicate things for them. There is kind of a twist about Estelle and ???'s relationship but I think you should read the book to get it. =) Estelle has forgotten her immortality and her soul mate helps her remember it. Don't worry you meet him soon enough!
I hate reading romances that don't make me feel at least a little happy or giddy. I knew this story was going to be somewhat darker based on the summary, but I was suprised by just how little happiness I found from reading this. The story line is original and interesting, two immortal beings sharing one complete soul with each being the polar opposite of the other. I did not really see the similarites to Twilight that so many talked about. If you are looking for them then yeah, I am sure you can find some in almost all young adult romances. Edgar did have trouble being around Estella without wanting to kill her, but he seemed to struggle with this A LOT more than Edward did, or at least it was a bigger focus in this novel. Estella's lack of happiness or really any feelings left me depressed. I wanted to know how it ended, but I did not really want to go to the trouble of wading through the I love you but I can't stand to touch you drama, or the I wish I could be happy or cry about something, blah blah blah. I did finish it with a feeling of relief that it was over and aggravation at how it ended.
SPOILER The whole book was somewhat depressing and then it ends depressing too.
I know that there are already two other novels that go with this one, so maybe the characters are able to develop their relationship more. I just wish it had more happy moments. I am one of those people who reads to be thrust into a new world and at the end feel happy about the experience or at least have hope that it will be happy soon. Maybe I should read the second book before I make my judgements, but I just can't bring myself to care enough about the characters to give it another go. It wasn't that it was poorly written. I just prefer some semblance of happiness in a romance.
