Paranormal Properties

A debut novel for young adults and/or immediate grades by Tracy Lane.

First word of this review is WOW.

Beyond expectation, and I believe a "star has been born." Seriously, this author knows how to "turn a phrase" and her content is so fresh and unexpected. She does what I wish all writers would do. She takes her time telling the stories and touches every scene and event with little embellishments that make you realize she "is there" and thus "you are with her."

One cannot escape the fact that this young adult novel captures the imagination of this seasoned author and I read it in one sitting with a ridiculous grin on my face. I was surprised by the "far out concept" of the life this family lives and how she could make you accept its reality. Young Jake, a home schooled teen, and his parents who are caught up in
proving that ghosts exist, comprise the family. Jake is the die hard skeptic but lovingly assists and supports his parents. They have given up gainful employment to follow their dream of capturing ghosts on their small time, independent film program, hoping to make the "big time" by eventually capturing a real glimpse of the ghosts and being swept into stardom.
Meanwhile, Jake is their son and also their "go to guy". He is kept busy setting up the shoots, and living the life of a gypsy with their frequent moves to the locations all over the country that have "ghosts" advertised.

The character of Tank is so engaging and endearing and that's all I am going to say about that; you have to read this book to learn the inevitable life lessons of a teenage duo that will touch your heart. These roles are so well written you actually "know" these two people and realize you have "met them somewhere" in your lifetime.

As for the ghost, I would have to say he is certainly the "Ghost with the Most" and I personally could relate to his character. I related even more so to the character's predicament, and felt relief that the book will undoubtedly be followed with a sequel and a series. This is one that readers will want to follow, for as strange as it may sound, knowing
it is a "ghost book" and supernatural by definition, I must say the people are so real and the lives so "familiar" it is like you are reading a book of real people and events. Very entertaining people and events.

I have every confidence that Tracy Lane is up to advancing this series, and that the characters will only become more endearing, more engaging, and more entertaining. I wish her the best and congratulate her on a job well done.

This was a cute story. I liked that Jake befriended Tank and helped the ghost find closure. Also fun reading for teens.
I'm in my sixties and loved this book. perfectly wonderful storytelling. kept me turning pages til early in the morning. super!
Tracy managed to capture my imagination and transport me to another place. The story played out like a movie in my mind and I finished the book happy to call the characters my friends. These are things I find help define a book as "great." I found myself looking forward to the next time I'd be able to sit down and read and more than once caught myself giggling out loud over something funny happening in the story. The characters were believable and likable and I'd be thrilled if she wrote another book with more adventures of the Weir family! I'd recommend this book to young readers and adults alike. It's light and fun and intriguing and it captured my interest from the very first page. Great job Tracy! Hope to see more from you....consider me a fan! )
This a good ghostly story,when Frank came in Jake,s life. Frank wanted Jake to find out who murdered him,it is good book teens and adults, reading about Jake and his parents trying to tape haunted places but the last Halloween taping was so funny.I am not going to yell you what happen read it for yourself
I enjoyed this book. I enjoy books about the paranormal. In this instance the boy and girl were more mature than the parents. It was a fun read.
As soon as I opened the pages of Paranormal Properties, I entered the world of Jake Weir, a boy whose life was changed forever by the appearance of a ghostly friend and the friendship that followed. In a short time, I knew Jake and the personalities around him. As I shared Jake's adventure, I was delighted by several unexpected twists and turns, some of which were fun, a couple of which were wistfully sad and moving (though only briefly as the mood of the book is pleasant) and other surprises which at times are raucously entertaining. The tale is well-told, the characters feel real, important and endearing, and by the time I put the book down, I sighed and hoped that the feeling of expectancy toward the next in a series would soon be rewarded, perhaps not only in pages but on screen as well. A fun and engaging story from a first-time author--impressive. Highly recommended!
I'll admit, I've never been an avid reader, fan, or teller of ghost tales...

Tracy Lane, while not making me a firm believer in ghosts...grabbed my attention and kept it through the whole book.

Paranormal Properties was fast paced, edgy, fun, and superbly told. It brought together the past and the present, through in a dash of reality TV, parental goofiness, and characters that any reader would be sure to love. On top of ALL that, not only would it interest young adults in the paranormal, but introduce them into the beloved world of murder mysteries, too.

Superb job, Ms. Lane. I will be anxiously awaiting your next work.
