First Impression: Shimmer is one sequel that I am so happy that I didn't have to wait for! Briony, the girl we met at the beginning of The Wicked Woods, is not the same girl she was at the end of Shimmer. Her short time in Wicked, Massachusetts has changed her in ways that have both enhanced her yet also hardened her beyond her years.

My Reflections: Briony has lost much in the last few months. She's lost everything that she once took for granted. She now realizes just how precious it all was. Her parents and little brother, now members of the undead, wander in the Wicked Woods fighting a bloodlust so all-consuming that it puts even those they love the most in grave danger.
Living with Aunt Sophie has prepared her to fight the unnatural; she and the rest of the Preservation Society are the only people in Wicked who are willing to believe that something inhuman lives in the Wicked Woods. George, the owner of George's Diner, is a good friend of Aunt Sophie's and Briony's Boss along with that he's an ex-military man that helps Aunt Sophie lead the society to which most of his employee's are part of.

Briony is caught between two boys, Fallon, of the fang and Kevin, of the furry, who just happen to be brothers, the very same brothers that were with Briony's family at the time of the attack. Fallon and Kevin inherently hate each other; it isn't personal, it's a natural instinct that takes over once the change from human is made, it's almost impossible for them to even be in the same room with each other. They do have two things in common: their love for Briony and extreme hatred for those who don't have heartbeats.

After Briony's `kidnapping' in The Wicked Woods, it seems as if the vampires have given up on their obsession with Briony but the Preservation Society knows better. Pietre, the vampire king has a personal vendetta with someone in the Preservation Society and will stop at nothing to make sure that he gets what he wants. With that in mind, the Preservation Society implements a plan with the help of some friends that walk on the `other' side of Wicked society. Once that plan is put into action what could go wrong...? Summary: I was impressed with the way that Briony grew into her character! Ms. Gow didn't make her into Super-girl just in the nick of time; instead, Briony learned from trial and error, trust and mistrust, love and hatred, etc... The emotional encounters of the book allowed the reader to follow Briony through the ups and downs of life in Wicked and the lessons she took from her experiences. The ebb and flow was perfect; with the right amount of action, mystery, suspense and romance that balanced out the story. The interpersonal relationships between the characters develop and change in the most interesting ways.

These books are amazing!!!! Anyone who has read twilight and is looking for book this series is it!!!Definitely some of the best books ever!!!
This was a good read. I would recommend this book. I can't wait to see what will happen in the next book.
Not quite as good as the first and seemed to be much briefer. Still overall, an excellent story and I am excited to read the next one.
After reading the 1st book in the series I was extremely excited for the 2nd book. I really enjoy Kailin Gow's writing style.
Kevin and Fallon are both in love with Briony, and both hate each-other for it. Of course, that is not the biggest problem in Wicked, Massachusetts- a group of vampires are trying to kill Briony. Although that is definitely not the least of her worries, it is definitely not the most.

Why, I kept reading these books? I hoped they would get better. Did they? No. Although this series is (somewhat) origional, I could not keep myself focused on this book. If you liked it, I do see the things that could have kept you interested. They just were not enough for me.
The second in the Wicked Woods series and just as fabulous as the first! Action packed and very heated, I couldn't put it down!
With Kevin and Fallon brooding with each other and lusting over Briony it definitely makes things interesting! Briony finally learns the truth about her family from her brother, and an ending you definitely won't see coming!
After reading The Wicked Woods in a day, I rushed to purchase the second book in this series. Shimmer picked up at The Wicked Woods' cliffhanger. This book was even better than the first. Here we get to see Briony as she struggles with trying to find a balance between paranormal and normal all while the vampire king does his best to make things difficult. Briony still can't choose between Kevin and Fallon, but conveniently when one is present, the other is usually away. There were a few times where I felt Briony came off a little shallow, but then I remembered she's a teenager. I can appreciate Gow's desire to write Briony's character in a realistic way. That actually helps the reader empathize with Briony. Aunt Sophie has more secrets in store for readers. Needless to say, I can't wait for the third book to come out. Definitely recommended.
